Charlie Eugene Stringer, Jr.

Charlie Eugene Stringer, Jr., age 97, of Aiken, S.C., husband for 65 years to the late Eleanor Morris Stringer and son of the late Charlie Eugene Stringer, Sr. and the late Thelma Morris Stringer, entered into eternal rest at his residence on Friday, June 26, 2020. He is survived by his sons “Chuck” Charlie Eugene Stringer, III and his wife, Annette Jones Stringer); Chris Randall Stringer and his wife Joan Morrison Stringer;  a daughter, T’Lene Evelyn Sringer Cook and her husband Bruce Milton Cook; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, “Baby Boy Stringer” and his sister, Elizabeth “Eddie” Stringer Newton. He was born and reared in Augusta, Ga. and has made his home in Aiken County since August, 1954. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta, Ga., and attended Augusta Junior College. He retired as a Project Assistant from DuPont in 1989.  He served in the US Army (1943-1946) during World War II and he also served on the USS Cascade in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elks Club in Augusta, Ga.., the Houndslake Country Club and the Aiken Assembly He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, having served as a Deacon and a member of the Whittler’s Club. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He loved to travel, and in his younger years, he enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, coaching little league baseball and football, golfing, going to USC Gamecock football games and he also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and watching TV while cuddling with his dog, “Buddy”.  Yes, a man of his caliber shall be greatly missed by his family and many friends and shall live on forever in their hearts and mind. The family would like to extend their sincere “Thank You” and appreciation to the following caregivers: Joan Stringer, his granddraughter, Stephanie LaBorde and her husband, Shannon and family for opening up their home and hearts to care for him in his last years, and a special “Thank You” to Sonya Loveless for her sweet devotion and care of him. Also, Tracy and Amanda Wood were always there willing to help if needed.  A graveside service, celebrating his life, will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Ga. on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Clint Jackson officiating. The Pallbearers will be Todd, Andy and Chad Stringer, Cameron and Chase LaBorde and Landon and Blake Stringer. Memorials, in his honor, may be made to the American Cancer Society and to the Kidney Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.
