She is survived by a daughter, Gail (Robbie) Leopard, sons, Phillip (Mary) Barton, Ronald (Linda) Barton, Michael (Sherry) Barton, Robert (Aimee) Barton and Larry (Tracey) Barton; sisters, Jessie “Coot’ Beard and Alice Fay “Punkie” Smith; a sister-in-law, Iva Taylor Porterfield; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; special friends, Diane and Rudy Key. She was preceded in death by a son, James E Barton, Jr. The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to her grandchildren, Ryan Barton and Megan Atkinson, for their loving care that they gave to their grandmother during her illness. She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. She was a member of Gloverville First Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and her family and grandchildren with all of her heart, and they in turn loved her. She shall be greatly missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched during the 84 years that God granted her on this earth; however, death is not the end, as she has just made that great transition to her new Heavenly Home where all is joy and peace in a land where no more sad goodbyes are ever spoken in a place of endless tomorrows. With Dorothy Barton there, earth’s loss is truly Heaven’s gain. The family will receive friends at the Gloverville First Baptist Church this Wednesday evening, January 4th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A service, celebrating her life, will be held at the church on Thursday, January 5th, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Napier and Rev. Stephen Phillips officiating. The interment will follow at the Langley Cemetery in Langley, S.C. The Pallbearers will be Al Norris, W. L. Barden, G. W. Ashley, Walter Craig, Alex “Bubba” Baker and Kevin Floth. Memorials may be made to the Gloverville First Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 157, Gloverville, S.C. 29828.
