Dorothy Byrd Hutto

March 19, 1947 — September 1, 2023

Aiken

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy “Nana” Allen Byrd Hutto, went home to Jesus on September 1, 2023.

Dorothy was born to John Alfred Byrd and Ira Mae Townsend Hass on March 19th, 1947, in Elizabethton, Tennessee. A member of the church from a very young age, she lived a life for Jesus for the 76 wonderful years of her life. She attended and graduated from Aiken High School in 1965. Dorothy married Jack Delano Hutto and blended their families on November 14, 1975.

Dorothy was known as “Nana Dorothy” for more than 32 years as she ran her in-home daycare and preschool caring for children and blessing countless families in the Aiken area. Dorothy loved all of her children dearly and felt honored to be a part of each of their lives. Her favorite pastime in her retirement years was keeping up with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the children she kept as “Nana Dorothy''. Dorothy was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others and was an integral part of her church, Grace-Pointe, over the years. A loyal servant to God, Dorothy loved spending time at her church, Grace-Pointe Church, serving at Vacation Bible Schools, teaching Sunday School classes, secretarial duties and assisting with congressional care alongside her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Now that Dorothy has passed into the arms of the Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Dorothy’s physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. Dorothy joins her parents, John Alfred Byrd, Ira Mae Townsend Hass, Ronald Sigmond Walter Hass and Yong Byrd, her husband, Jack Delano Hutto, her sister, Faye Byrd Pou, her two granddaughters, Kaley Alexis Hutto and Lauren Grace Lynch in Heaven. She is survived by many loving family members, including her children, Charles Taylor (Shannon), Nicholas Hutto (Krystal), Larry Hutto (Patty), Cindy Caine (Steve), Mike Hutto (Gina) and her 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday September 8, 2023 at 1pm at South Lawn Cemetery in Aiken, SC with Pastor Jeffery Taylor officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.
