Mr. George Rufus Conaway, born December 22, 1941, in Columbus GA, entered into rest at his home in North Augusta on July 31, 2022.
Rufus was a loving father, devoted husband, and proud “Papa”. Rufus worked for nearly 27 years at Graniteville Company and retired from Kimberly Clarke after 17 years. For much of his adult life, he was a member of Warrenville Church of God, and for the last 14 years a member of Mercy Church. Rufus devoted his life to Christ and was known by all who knew him to be “Prayer Warrior”. He and his wife of 58 years, Joanne, had a spirit of servitude and never refused to help anyone in need. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and took great pleasure in watching them grow. He fought a good fight and finished the race, keeping his faith in Christ. His desire for his homegoing service was to have the message of Salvation shared, so that others may come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior, as he did so many years ago in 1975.
Mr. Conaway is preceded in death by the love of his life, Wife of 58 years, Joanne; Mother, Lucille Conaway, and Father, John Conaway.
He is survived by Children; Patty Bryan (Brooke), Michael Conaway (Shannon), Dina Mosely (Darin); Grandchildren, Matthew Bryan (Andrea), Mallory Black (Jeremee), Ashley Shealy (Brooks), Alex Conaway, Conner Greene (Maddie); Great grandchildren, Landree Black, Grayson Shealy, and Lily Greene. Brother; Ronny Conaway (Edith); Sisters Sue Perkins, Sandra Kelly (Charlie), Cindy Lewis, Saundra Lewis (Tony) and Sister-In-Law Margie Conaway.
Pallbearers will be Doug Silas, Dwight Smith, Matthew Bryan, Alex Conaway, Jeremee Black, and Brooks Shealy.
