HASS-Ira Mae Townsend Hass, age 88, of Aiken, S.C., loving known as Ma or “Big Granny” and wife of Ronald S.W. Hass and daughter of the late John Townsend and the late Hattie Miller Townsend, left her home here and entered into the Gates of Heaven on Monday, November 21, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Jack) Hutto of Aiken; a sister, Betty Honeycutt; a brother, Jason (Virginia) Honeycutt both of Hampton, TN.; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters; Barbara Watson and Faye Pou. She was born in Roan Mountain, TN but has been a resident of Aiken County, S.C. since 1959. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aiken. She worked for Carolina Barbecue for many years. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend. She shall be greatly missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched during the 88 years that God granted her on this earth. Death cannot destroy precious memories, and she shall live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones. “When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.” A service, celebrating her life and home going, will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aiken on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. The interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in Aiken. The Pallbearers will be Nicholas Hutto, Charles Taylor, Larry Hutto, Mike Hutto, Donnie Wakefield and Benny Pou. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to extend a “Heartfelt Thank You” to Azaleawoods Nursing Home staff for the loving care that they gave their loved one during her stay there. Also, a “Special Thanks” to Angie, Birdell, Dorothy, Eartha and Ms. Emma. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Organ Fund, 902 Hitchcock Dr., Aiken, S.C. 29803.
