James Irvin Summer

December 31, 1969 — June 11, 2016

SUMMER-James Irvin Summer, age 75, of Aiken, S.C., loving husband for nine wonderful years to Laurel Perry Summer and son of the late Clarence Summer and the late Annie Timmerman Summer, entered into eternal rest at his residence, Saturday morning, June 11, 2016. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Todd (Georgianne) Summer of Aiken, S.C.; daughters, Cindy Summer and Suzanne (Stan) Richardson both of North Augusta, S.C. and Sheryl (Robert) Lybrand of Aiken, S.C; a brother, Clyde (Joanne) Summer of Aiken, S.C.; twenty-one grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a sister-in-law, Miriam Summer; brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson, David Berry, Eric(Paula)Berry; stepson, Bennett (Sherry) Hixon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-two years, Donna Berry Summer; a brother, Truman Summer and sisters, Dolly Johnson and Millie Hubbs. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken. He retired from Kimberly- Clark as an Assistant Fire Chief after thirty-five years of dedicated service. He enjoyed running his Flea Market at Six Points in Aiken for many years. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart and life. He never met a stranger. He had a “Heart of Gold”, as he would help anybody who needed help. The world will be a better place with more people who cared for their fellowman like Irvin Summer did. He shall be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Death is not the end, as he has just made that great transition to his new Heavenly Home. Earth’s loss, is truly Heaven’s gain. A service, celebrating his life and homegoing, will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 5:00 PM with Rev. Randy Ouzts and Rev. Ron Hasty officiating. The interment will follow at the Historical Graniteville Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be Charles McFee, Jason Hancock, Chad Hancock, Alex Richardson, Travis Tullis and Aaron Waller. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Davy Judy, Dale Sharp, John Hartley, Johnny Crook, Joe Hamilton and Walter Jones. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regency Hospice, 105 Summerwood Way, Suite D, Aiken, S.C. 29803. The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday from 3:00 until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Regency Hospice for their loving care.
