Janell "Skippy" Pate

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Janell “Skippy” Pate, age 89, of Graniteville, SC entered into eternal rest at home on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Skippy was born in Aiken on June 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Delmas and Ruby Brantley.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Ralph Eugene “Gene” Pate.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Pate, Vicky Durden (Steve), Wanda Hayden (Troy); grandchildren, Logan Pate (Cely), Brent Durden (Lauren), Courtney McLendon (Jason), Rebekah Cartin, Rees Cartin, Rachel Lynn (Jay), Troy Hayden, Jr. (Katelyn); great-grandchildren, Baylee McLendon, Blaire McLendon, Peyton McLendon, Jonah Thomas, Eve Thomas, Haley Hayden, and Taylor Hayden.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend. Skippy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Leavelle McCampbell School Alumni Association and served as a past board member. She enjoyed her many years volunteering at Byrd Elementary in Graniteville. She was an avid bowler and reader. She was a sports fan who loved cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Gamecocks. Skippy will be missed by those of us lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A service honoring her life and legacy will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 3 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church in Graniteville, SC with Rev. Steve Cartin officiating and Rev. George Johnson assisting. The interment will immediately follow at the Historic Graniteville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 P.M. until the time of the service at the church.
