Joanne Smith Conaway

March 21, 1943 — September 12, 2021

Mrs. Joanne Smith Conaway, born March 21, 1943, entered into rest at her home Sunday September 12, 2021.

Joanne led a full and adventurous life. A cosmetologist for more than 30 years, owning two shops, House of Beauty and DeAnn’s Hair Salon. For most of her life she was a member of Warrenville Church of God where she was an active member of the church with a passion for teaching children about the love of Christ. She held many roles with the church, having served as Children’s Church Director, Youth Director, Choir Member, Ladies Ministries and Family Training Leader. For the last 14 years she was a member of Mercy Church where she served as Sunday school teacher. Her hobbies included traveling with her best friend, Anne Roof, reading, cross word puzzles and planning family gatherings. She fought a great fight and now she is with our Heavenly Father healed. The family would like to thank all of their family and friends for all their prayers, love and support.

Mrs. Conaway is proceeded in death by Grandmother, Mae Bell Smith; Father, Joseph E. Smith; Mother Odessa G Smith; Brother, Lamar E. Smith; Sister, Cozette G. Robinson.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George R. Conaway, children Patty Bryan (Brooke), Michael Conaway (Shannon), Dina Mosely (Darin). Grandchildren, Matthew Bryan, Mallory Black (Jeremee), Ashley Shealy (Brooks), Alex Conaway, Conner Greene (Mattie). Great grandchildren, Landree Black, Grayson Shealy, and Lily Greene. Brother Dwight Smith (Susan), Sisters Mary Ellen Littleton, Jeanette Barton (Davis).


A Funeral Service, celebrating her life, will be held Wednesday September 15, 2021 at Mercy Church in Aiken, SC at 1 P.M. with Pastor Kenny Murphy to officiate. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.


Pallbearers will be Doug Silas, Dwight Smith, Matthew Bryan, Alex Conaway, Jeremee Black, and Brooks Shealy.
