Major James L. “Bo” New, Sr. Retired, age 81, beloved husband of Mrs. Eunice Kneece New, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 9th, 2020 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, James Laddie New, Jr. (Vera), Michael Lewis New, Jeff Lowe (Kem), Paul Hawkins (Missy), Marty Edwards (Faye), Doug Edwards (Laura), Sidney Edwards; daughters, Debbie Pierson (Robert), Marie Edwards Williams, Doris Singleton; sister, Frances Cook (R.W.) brother-in-law, Charles Smith; 23 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Wade and Evelyn Rish New; daughters, Susan Inice New; and sister, Janie Smith.
Mr. New was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Christian Heritage Church in Graniteville. He was retired with 32 years of service as a Major with Aiken Department of Public Safety, a member of the Aiken Shrine Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge #156 in Aiken, an Honorary Member of the Star Lodge in Graniteville, a member of the Potante Guard, and a past president of the Shrine Club in Aiken. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he impacted with all of his years of service to the community.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday December 12th, 2020 at 3pm at Christian Heritage Church with Pastors Stephen Phillips, Jonathan Randall and Jody Padgett officiating. The interment with Masonic Rites Accorded By Lodge #156 in Aiken, will immediately follow at the Historical Graniteville Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Ralph Thomas, Mike Hunt, Ronald Barton, Keith Jowers and Eddie Bentley.
Honorary Pallbears will be: Mike Harold, Ray Bentley, Joe Taylor, John Pope, Clyde Harkins, Roy Fisher, Wade Baggott, Sammy Odum and the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital of Greenville at 950 w. Faris Raod. Greenville, SC 29606 in memory of Major James L. “Bo” New, Sr.
Due to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the current pandemic, social distancing guidelines and masks will be encouraged for the visitation and funeral service.
