Mr. Richard William “Dick” Howell Sr. entered into rest on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Jean Kinner Howell; parents, Lulu Mae and Clark William Howell; brother, Clark W. Howell Jr.; sister, Donna Howell Cramer; and sister-in-law, Patricia Smith.

He is survived by his son, Richard W. Howell Jr. of Aiken, SC; daughter Lisa A. Howell (Dereck) Gillespie of Fair Play, SC; grandchildren, Craig Gillespie, Brian Gillespie, Matt Howell, Devan Howell Williams, Abigail Howell, and several great-grandchildren.

Born in New Milford, PA, Dick attended Blue Ridge High School, PA, Teachers College, National Lumber Association Inspection Training School in Memphis, TN, was a Navy Veteran and went on to have a very rewarding career in operating lumber mills and supplying manufacturing industries throughout the North and Southeast. He was an Eagle Scout and Scout Master for many years, passing on his knowledge and love of the outdoors to others. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and chatting with family and friends. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. We will always remember how he was ready to help, liked everyone he met, and loved every meal he ate. He will remain in our hearts forever.

A Memorial Service, celebrating his life, will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Nevard to officiate. The family will receive friends at the chapel 1 hour prior to the service.

Donations in Dick’s memory can be made to Boy Scouts of America or Wounded Warrior.
