Richard Paul Scott

November 20, 1944 — February 14, 2023

Warrenville

Richard Paul Scott Sr., 78 of Warrenville went to be with his Savior on February 14, 2023.

He is preceded by his parents, Luther Hastings Scott, and Lora Francis Brown Scott.

Paul was born on November 20, 1944, in Montgomery, Alabama and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy; daughter, Paula (Kevin) Murray; son Richard Paul (Jeanine) Scott Jr; granddaughter, Bella Grace Scott; grandsons Patton Reed Murray, Brantley Richard Scott, Powell Jackson Murray; and two furbabies, Max and Trooper.

Paul proudly served in the Army with the 546th Med Vac unit and was stationed at Fort Polk LA where Judy a RN worked at Byrd Memorial Hospital. After an honorable discharge they returned to Graniteville where Paul continued working in the maintenance dept at Graniteville Company and later JM Huber Company. Since 1976, Paul has been a Master Mason in good standing with the Star Lodge #99 in Graniteville. He was also member of the SC American Legion, The Model A Ford Club of America and the Aiken A's Model A club. He partnered with good friend Clyde Sizemore and together they purchased a dirt track car and raced at Thundervalley track in Lexington. Their diligence and hard work paid off and won them the track championship that year. After the closure of JM Huber, Paul and Judy purchased Aiken Auto Electric, on Beaufort Street in Aiken and ran a successful business till 2010 when he retired. His customers knew him as “the man in the hat” for his Indiana Jones style hat that he wore every day. After retirement Paul enjoyed participating in the grandchildren’s' sports (football, baseball, volleyball and pageants for the granddaughter and lots of family gatherings where Judy was known to always have her camera ready for memory shots. He loved boiled peanuts and was known to cook 10 pounds in his cooker for friends and family. When his health declined his son Ricky took over the tradition. For the entire family has been raised on boiled peanuts! The family enjoyed watching USC/Clemson college ball since daughter Paula graduated from USC and son Ricky was a graduate of Clemson. The BIG game was always fun for the group, and we never voiced our opinion no matter the score!

A celebration of his life will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Historic St John UMC in Graniteville, S.C. with Reverend Kendall Healy presiding. Special music will be provided by Evelyn Healy and accompaniment by David Salter on the organ. The Burial will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Paul will receive Masonic rites from his brothers at Star Lodge 99 and military honors for his service in the military. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.
